In most forms of poker, the player to the left of the dealer places a bet called the “blind.” The blind is usually equal in size to the amount of money that the player has already bet. When the turn to act comes around, players can either call the blind or raise it.
Some poker games are cash games, meaning that players must trade in their money for chips before the game begins. This is different from tournament play, in which players can exchange their chips for money at the end of a hand. Players also cannot buy more chips during a hand, but must wait for the next hand to begin before they can do so.
